Title:  WSOR 3806
Description:  WSOR 3806 ambles down the tracks towards MX crossing. If you look hard, you can still see a signal stand (inoperable) in the distance guarding the once-busy diamond that resides in the middle of Monona Bay. It's rare to see a wye movement here, and although I wasn't set up for a good shot, seeing the move was enough of a treat for me.

Title:  WSOR 3806
Description:  Having safely set out a cut of loads on the Kohl center siding, the crew takes about a dozen more loads to be spotted in the UW-Heater plant (out of picture at right). Interestingly enough, this is the fourth grade crossing that the train has passed since leaving the yard 2-3 miles ago that passes diagonally through the middle of an intersection. Gotta love the city planning here...

Title:  WSOR 3806
Description:  The engineer carefully throttles and hits the breaks as several switch moves are made over the Park street overpass. This must be a tricky place to set out cars- the overpass is at the top of a small, relatively steep (for a railroad) hill.

Title:  WSOR 3806
Description:  The train heads to Middleton as the light of day disappears behind approaching storm clouds. Check out the gates at this crossing- They completely block traffic and will stop a car moving 35mph dead in its tracks. This is certainly an interesting way to keep cars from running the gates!

Title:  WSOR 3806 and 2052 on M1
Description:  The M1 crew gets reluctant permission from the yardmaster to pull their 15 empty INRD hoppers into the E. Johnson street yard. The yard is full of cars, the JM and M2 crews are both switching, and there's basically no place for the M1 to go... nahhh, there's always room!

WSOR 3806
Title:  WSOR 3806
Description:  Heat lines distort this view of 3806 backing down Madison Gas & Electric's spur in the isthmus. It's a hot one- high 80s and stuffy. The coal being spotted will eventually supply the demand for air conditioning on days like these. The crew has to rely on more conventional methods, like leaving the cab door open.

WSOR 3802, 3806 on M2
Title:  WSOR 3802, 3806 on M2
Description:  The M2 crew leads a handfull of cars just south of Olin avenue on WSOR's Central Soya spur. The boxcars are empties from Capital News, an outfit that prints both the Wisconsin State Journal and the Capital Times. Further back in the train are a couple of covered hoppers from Vita Plus. The switch in the foreground is for the former C&NW main that runs south from Madison through the communities of Fitchburg, Oregon and Brooklyn. Largely intact with a few grade-crossing exceptions, the line was rumored to re-open to serve a new business park.
