WSOR 2053 |
Description: |
The 2053 curves around the UW Heater plant tracks and is about to cross Dayton street. It was hard to hold the camera steady- the 2053 has a very loud horn, and the engineer was laying on it heavily for this crossbuck-only crossing. Out of the shot to my left and right are many UW-Madison students darting across the tracks in front of the train. They're familiar with the prospect of being slightly delayed by the switching moves here and would rather walk in front of a moving train and it's blaring horn than wait a minute or so. |

Description: |
WSOR 2053 trundles by Olbrich Park on the Cottage Grove sub. There will be no ice skaters on the rink today- the high today was 51 degrees (F), quite tropical for this time of year in Wisconsin. The train will soon arrive at Junction A, where WSOR's Waterloo sub connects to the Cottage Grove Sub. This train, the OABLT, has some cars to pick up off of the Waterloo Sub at the junction before returning to the yard. |

WSOR 2053 |
Description: |
Having pulled a boxcar off of the Madison Central (Cold?) Storage spur, the 3-person crew makes a shove back to Royster Clark to do some switching before returning to the E. Johnson St. yard in Madison. This line used to belong to the Chicago and North Western Railway, and enters Madison from the east. It was the CNW's Milwaukee (Waukesha) to Madison mainline, but now all that remains on the Madison end is the short stub to Cottage Grove. |

The Cottage Grove sub was CNW's Milwaukee-Madison line. The WSOR now operates both lines. |

There always has to be one... |
Description: |
The 2054 and 2055 pause as the crew deals with a problematic customer. In my half-dozen trips to take pics here, this customer has caused the crew headaches in some way or another each time. |

WSOR 2055 |
Description: |
The MABLT crew and the 2055 switch cars at the LaFarge cement plant, blocking Stoughton road in the process. The crossing at Stoughton road is the stupidest grade crossing in Madison, making it a contestant for the stupidest in Wisconsin. There used to be an over/underpass here, but some genius decided that routing six lanes of fast-moving, dense traffic under the most hideous crossing lights in the county would be a good idea |
